Looking for blog topics - try Journal Swap!

It's the start of a new year! Do you have any resolutions?
Like a lot of bloggers, I'll be trying to keep Stroll Through Storyland going strong.

But topics? What am I going to write about?
Being involved with the Etsybloggers helps a lot, keeping things varied and new. I love our carnivals, and usually participate in 2 each month. And then I have some standbys, like my "almost wordless wednesday" and Friday's "Internet Artisan Interview."

Beginning March, I'll be writing in my journal from the Etsybloggers Journal Swap. I might just use a few of the daily topics for blog posts, or take some pictures of my journal in progress. Last day for the sign-up is January 11th.

These different "topics" will help both me and my Swap Mate. Like making a greeting card for her, recommending books, and making a suggestion for her blog layout. I'll be doing some soul searching too, and of course, working on my creative side.

All sign-ups, questions, and comments will be aired through the Etsybloggers Message Board :"Ideas/Idea and Info re: our EtsyBloggers Street Team"; then go to Journal Swap (you have to be an Etsyblogger Team Member to get in.)

Here's a preview of the daily topics:

1) Write an introduction or short description of yourself. Include your blog banner and a photo or drawing of yourself. (everyone will do this one first - sort of a prologue to your journal)

2) Make a list of 25 things you want to do in 2010. These can be as simple as "participate in the thread every week" or as big as "save up for an overseas vacation."

3) Cut out a local news article and paste it into your journal.

4) List the URLs of the latest four Favorites from your Etsy shop page. Are these items on YOUR wishlist, or for somebody else?

5) Copy your mate's Etsy banner, and make a greeting card with it. Attach it so it can be used.

6) List 10 things you can see from where you're sitting.

7) Turn your journal around and write an entire entry upside down. Your choice of topic.

8) Make a suggestion about your mate's blog layout, that you think will help them.

9) Take your business card or another marketing tool, and use it as a centerpiece for a drawing.

10) Write down lyrics from a song that inspires you, moves you, or creates a strong emotion.

11) Write about an issue in the world that is important to you and why.

12) Describe your day in one word. Write this word in large letters across the page.

13) Write about another Etsy team you belong to. Do you recommend this team to your mate?

14) Write about something in your mate's profile.

15) Write about a project you are working on right now. This could include arts, crafts, a presentation for work, etc.

16) Glue an envelope into your journal and seal a secret inside. When you receive the journal, you can open your mate's envelope or choose to leave the secret hidden.

17) Write down a recipe.

18) Write about the town where you grew up. Are you still there? Have you gone back to visit?

19) List 10 reasons you smiled or plan to smile today.

20) Write with multiple colors on the same page. Your choice of topic.

21) Describe your favorite place to write in your journal and why it's your favorite.

22) Attach an artifact you use in your Etsy artwork, and describe it.

23) Write a blog about a favorite item in your mate's shop. Write the URL here and explain why you chose it.

24) Tear or cut up a photo and glue the pieces back together randomly.

25) What's your favorite color? List what you have that is this color.

26) Make a promise to yourself today and write it down in your journal so that it fills the entire page.

27) List 5 books you recommend to your mate and 1 book you hated.

28) Glue in an artifact from your day. This could be a business card from a place you visited, a ticket from a movie you saw, a stamp from an envelope, etc. Tell your Mate about it.

29) Make a list of things you sense right now for each of your five senses: Touch, taste, sight, smell, sound.

30) Talk about the weather.

31) Press a flower or leaf between waxed paper and attach it to a page.

That's 31 topics for 31 days. I plan to write about my experiences during the month. Everyone is required to write in the month of April at least once, about their experiences. Should be interesting, to see how everyone approaches the topics.

So if you're an Etsyblogger, join in the fun and get a Swap Mate. If you have any questions, ask!

I hadn't read the details of the swap. Sounds like an interesting idea. I'm not sure I'd keep up with all 31 requirements, but it'll be fun to see how you do.

(Sorry if this ends up being a double post. It looked like my first attempt to comment didn't work)

Okay, Story. This is just not fair! Now I have to do this. Your topics are fun, and interesting, mostly easy. Pray for me. I'm going to need outside help to keep from being a disappointment to someone!

Sounds like some clever ideas. Must remember to make some notes.

Thanks for noticing my bridge and beyond project.

Yikes, I missed you somehow when dropping today, not sure how; will make sure I get your tomorrow. I'm at 300 sorry.

Deb, this looks like so much fun and I would love to participate but since it happens in my busiest month of the year for tax season, I don't want to disappoint my mate. If you do it again at another time of year, I'll be the first to sign up!

I'm still not on Etsy yet...there's just so much other stuff going on at the moment. *sigh*
You Etsians have so much fun :)
I love your journals, Deb!

Those are some great ideas! I especially like 28 and 29. Little assignments like that seem like they could suck me back into my sketch book again...a place I love to be but don't always remember!

Thanks for your words of encouragement on my blog today! It was nice to come home to see that I'm not the only one feeling the same way and even some suggestions.
