vocabulary building #2

Got a new word for you - addle.
Now, it looked to me to have something to do about arithmetic.
Not! Here's how it's used (thanks, Jana, for the suggestion):
"Perhaps, he thought, bobbing to the surface well before dawn,
the smell had addled them all."

I was so addled by the use of the word in the sentence that I had to scroll down to look at the definition..hee-hee
