Etsy Artisan Interview - Chloe's Creatures

Chloe's Creatures come in a variety of different sizes. I just love the idea of pillows as well as plush toys, that are available in her Etsy shop. I might be just naive, but how many of you know about the Monsters team on Etsy? Well, Chloe introduced me to them, and their blog has the cutest bunch of monsters I've ever seen in one place. She opened her shop in March - lets give her a warm welcome and bunches of Etsy love!
  • What's the name of your Etsy shop?
The name of my shop is Chloe's Creatures

  • What types of products do you sell?
I sell different versions of the plush/pillow variety. I have lots of ideas, therefore several different varieties. My categories are, The Produce Brigade, Shapes from Space, Animals, Cube Monsters, and Mini Pocket Versions.
  • What is your favorite item in your shop today?
That's a tough question, as I have several favorites, but I will have to go with one of my newer products, my Red Cube Monster.

  • How did you find out about Etsy? Were you a buyer before a seller?
I found out about Etsy when I was shopping online for octopi items for a Christmas present for my boyfriend and Etsy sellers kept popping up a lot when I searched, so I checked out the site, and decided i wanted to sell ideas I had had but never got around to making.

  • Are you involved with any of the Etsy teams?
I just joined and plan to try to be an active member of the Etsy Youth team, and the Monsters team.

  • Are there additional venues where you sell your work?
At the moment no. If the economy starts to pick up I might try out selling at local craft shows.
  • Over the years, what materials and mediums have you worked with? What's your favorite?
In high-school I was very into the fine arts such as painting with oils and acrylics but in my studio art thesis I started incorporating scrap fabric into my painting for a trump l'oiel (trick of the eye). This got me into fabric, and I started making things for my boyfriend and worked away from fine art to more whimsical things which were more fun made with felt and fleece. Although I loved painting, I definitely love working with fleece and felt more.

  • Everyone knows images are important when selling on the internet. What's your procedure for taking photos of your products? Do you have any tips on taking better photographs?
Well right now, I would say my pictures are not very good at all which is bad because good pictures really do make a difference when selling on Etsy. My boyfriend will be taking them for me soon as I have no talent with technology in general and I will be replacing the ones on my store.
  • Do you have an online photo storage site, where we can see more about you and your surroundings?
Not yet, but I plan to have one up within the next month.

  • Are selling your products a full-time job, or do you have an additional occupation, outside the home?
Right now I am a full time college student so I make my items in my spare time. If this grew into a successful thing, then I would love to do this full time!

  • We are all looking for good marketing advice. What's the best tip or trick you can share with us?
Be active. Constantly be involved in the forum threads and teams. Even if it doesn't get you sales, it gets more people to view your shop and the more people see it the more chances you have of making sales.
  • Where can people find out more about you - do you have a blog, website, instant messaging account?

Since i just started selling, I do not have any other links, but when I do I will post a link in my shop profile.

OK, it's the Storybeader turn to pick a favorite. I think I'm most attracted to Chloe's produce brigade, and the way she brought all her vegetables to life. I will never think of an onion in the same way again!
