Blasket Stone #2

A donkey played on
The beach, never again to
Haul baskets of sand.

Here's my second necklace and earrings set, featuring a pendant created in memory of my trip to Ireland. The feature rock I picked up on the beach at Greater Blasket Island, the westernmost island in all of Europe. It's attached to a jasper and aventurine chipped foundation by sterling silver, with a sterling bead and malachite block fetish "on top."

The fetish reminded me of the donkeys we saw on the now unihabited island. They were so cute, and looked very content, grazing on the hillside. We were actually surprised to see them, thinking sheep were the only animals there. The donkeys were used to carry turf in baskets from the mountain, and sand and seaweed from the shore.

Length of the necklace: 27" long
Length of the earrings: 3" totalsee Blasket Stone series, #1

Beautiful necklaces and earrings! I love the pic of the donkeys! It makes me happy to think of an island populated just w/ donkeys and sheep.
