Internet Artisan Interview - Memories for Life

Edi has become a best internet friend of mine. We met through the etsybloggers team, and both agree it's our favorite thing about selling on Etsy. I love looking at her colorful albums, and reading her blog. Edi has shown me how creative and varied papercrafts can be - so much so that I decided to try my hand at "art with paper" too. Thank you, my friend, for all the encouragement and comments.
  • What's the name of your business/shop?
Memories for Life Scrapbooks

  • Do you have a registered domain name and/or a blog ?
No. I actually chose Etsy so I didn't have to manage my own site :)

  • What type of handmade products do you sell?
Paper crafts...Premade scrapbooks, Custom scrapbooks, Notebooks, Greeting cards, Wedding Invitations. Even if it's not in my shop...if it's made of paper...I can make it :)

  • Show us a piece you recently finished

My Beautiful Blooms Address Book was fun to make :) And it has a matching notebook too.

  • What are you working on right now? Any sketches?
Right now I'm preparing for my fall craft shows, so I'm making multiples of a lot of items. Nothing new for a little while, unfortunately.

  • If you have a website or blog, what do you use for advertising? What do your avatars look like?
On my Etsy site, I use a generic business avatar and on my blog I use a picture of myself at my scrapbook table.

  • If you have a website or blog, tell us about your favorite widget.
I like the Random EtsyBlogger Widget. I like clicking on it and seeing what fun things I can find :)

  • Which online selling vendors do you use? What do you like best about each one?
Etsy is by far my favorite online selling venue. It is where I got my start selling online and have quite a few repeat customers :) My favorite part is the EtsyBloggers :) They are such a supportive team and that makes the process all that much more fun :) I also have items listed on Shophandmade.com and Artfire.com, but haven't made any sales yet. I like all of them.

  • Are you involved in social networking? What's your favorite and why? If you're not involved, you must have a good reason!
I have a personal account on Facebook and plan to start a Fan page soon. I have made quite a few sales just with my personal account :) I am also on plurk.

  • All of us can use a helpful business hint once a week. What's yours?
Don't be afraid to talk up your business. I tell people all the time about my scrapbooking and many don't know I do this type of work. Then they are interested to see my work and check out my shop :) Always carry business cards and don't be afraid to hand them out!

  • Do you have a "modus operandi" for computing the price of a handmade object? Tell us your formula?
I wish there was a magic formula to use! I always take into consideration the cost of my supplies. Then I think of how much I would want to spend on the item and how much I think others would be willing to spend. I try and keep all of my items in the "gift-giving" price range too. Unfortunately my time doesn't get entered into the equation!

We'd love to see your little corner of the world, where you create.
  • Where do you see your artwork in one year? Any plans in the works?
I hope to keep my business growing on Etsy. Continue to get new customers and retain my repeat buyers. I would also like to start doing more craft shows and possibly start doing home shows.

My turn! I think my favorite scrapbook is this Cancun album. I've always loved the word scrapbook Edi makes, and the colors of this one are so great. Reminds me of tropical waters... I could just see someone's scuba and beach photos in this!

What a great interview. I love here word albums too. I love seeing other artists workspaces - probably because I don't really have one.
