Destashing - Use Them or Lose Them

"Use them or lose them." That's what I've always said, and told Kathleen (from tapestry316) recently in a blog comment. A good motto when cleaning up. I would love to move all my beads to another area, since I'm not making jewelry right now. And get a map case to put all my papers in, which I AM using. Then I could give the large rolling tool chest back to DH, and he can get organized!

Maybe in the summer, when I'm less busy (we'll see!) I can take some time and make gorgeous jewelry with all the beautiful beads I've accumulated. I have a hard time destashing... if you're a beader like me, you'll understand that! I've tried to sell beads online, like this assortment of tiger eyes. It's a beautiful grouping, but people aren't interested. What should I do? Any suggestions?

I have a hard time destashing, too. I always think that I'll regret getting rid of something because I'll think of a use for it later. Thankfully beads are pretty small, especially the kinds that I prefer, so even a pretty large collection only takes up so much space. Of course I've only been doing serious jewelry making for 2 years so we'll see if I still say this in another 10 years or not. :)

How long since you tried to sell supplies? How much was this grouping? Was it in a "Supply" shop or in your jewelry shop? You have such wonderful beads, someone--including me--might like to see what you want to destash.

I have a hard time parting with supplies too! You just never know when you might need them!

I horrible at destashing. Maybe look for a swap on Craftster or a craft challenge swap thingy....I've seen where groups pass along supplies & make something with what they get - can be random or within categories.

It's tough for me to destash too. I just might need them again someday!

I am always dealing with this issue. I have heard this: if you have not touched it in 6-12 months say good-bye. And when you buy something new then remove something from your stash.

I now donate my materials and craft supplies to local groups that make things for charity. It makes it easier to let things go.

I'm not good at destashing either. especially beads. If I got rid of them, I'd probably want them soon after. I have thought of making displays of craft materials such as bowls of beads. They are pretty to look at, wonderful to touch and sift through.
Have you tried Craig's list. I know some people sell through that avenue.

What if you found things that they go with? Black beads? Gold? Make some other combinations to sell them with --- but by the time you find something that coordinates, maybe you'll want to make something new with them.
