public art

I think cities with public art are always the most beautiful.  Some places just don't care about making their landscape more attractive.  Portland, Oregon is a good example of a lovely city to walk through.  Sculpture and water features everywhere.

I just returned from Minneapolis/St. Paul and was very impressed with all the artwork on the sidewalks and in the parks.

Some of you might have seen my recent Almost Wordless Wednesday, sitting in Rice Park (St. Paul) with Marcie and Woodstock.

That's another thing.  Benches.  I like to sit down, rest, and look around!

Here's a collage of some other sights in Rice Park.

We found Snoopy's doghouse in front of a couple of buildings.  I'm thinking this was a community project because I saw more than one, painted in their own individual way.  This doghouse was in front of the electric company...

Is there public art in the city where you live?

All the peanuts are so cute :) Unfortunately we don't have any public art in my small town.

The Peanuts characters are so great! I had no idea that there were a handful of them in Minneapolis.

Milwaukee has a bronze Fonz statue although I haven't seen it yet...

Those Peanuts sculptures are so cute! Our city has lots of art and sculptures around as people really support the arts out here in Oregon!

Those are great! And nice to see you too!

We have an exceptional amount of art and the arts here in Sarasota, FL. Also have the Ringling School of Art, and there different locations all around. Very artsy place, with the Van Wezel, Black Theatre Troup, Oprah, and so on...

Your pictures are great. I'm going to look around this week and see if there is public art. In my small town I know we have statues and gardens, but... I'm going to keep my eyes open, and take some pictures.
Thanks for sharing, those Peanuts characters are so, so cute!

I agree with you! I love public art! My city--Cincinnati, earlier known as Porkopolis (for its earlier pork trade) has an event--a popular marathon race known as the Flying Pig. In 2000, the city arranged an art event called The Big Pig Gig. Artists painted pigs, sponsors bought them, and they were on display around the city. Some are still on display. One of my friends painted a pig. A couple years later, the same basic idea was done with large vases. But the pigs were definitely cool!

Of course, I'm describing exhibits that are mostly not permanent.
We have a wonderful sculpture garden for one--Pyramid Hill.
