AlphabeThursday - Fall Break

We spend our weekends in the fall pruning the trees and shrubs on our property.  I've been thinking of trimming a juniper we planted in the backyard, but we've let it grow.  And now it's out of control.

the baby juniper bush
For you to understand where I'm coming from, let me take you back about 10 years, when we first planted the little bush.  DH built a deck onto the back of the house and we planted the juniper, never realizing it was going to get so big.  We can hardly see around it now!

So last Thursday on my day off, I got out my trusty shears and handsaw.
Here are my two little helpers.

And now, this is what the juniper looks like.

The poor thing was burnt over the summer, but hopefully it will come back nicely.  We'll water it, if we have to!  I think everyone will enjoy the bottom branches being gone, especially the doggies.  I've already seen Buster relaxing underneath in a newly dug hole.

This post was brought to you during my vacation from the AlphabeThursday class.  Next week, back to school and our fourth round through the alphabet.  See what everyone else was thinking about on their Fall Break, over at Ms. Jenny's blog.

It's nice to get out and get some yard work done and enjoy a nice day.

We (well, my hubby) had to remove one of the junipers last month. It was burnt to a crisp!

And your helpers are so cute:)

We have a juniper that went wild, too, and practically blocked the view to our pool. The gardeners wanted to take it out, but I talked them into pruning it instead...much like yours!

I like my juniper.

Yard work is not one of our favorite activities either, but at least it has an aesthetic payoff. Your yard is beautiful! It's great to have such cute helpers, too.

haha...I grew to hate juniper. Had a bunch of it in front of my house in northern California. It was prickly, unkempt and always smelled like cat pee... needless to say I was thrilled to pull it out and never replace it. Your yard looks great though and I respect your right to LOVE juniper. heehee

We planted juniper bushes about 11 years ago, so I know what you mean. I have not kept them in control as much as I should have. So I will (hopefully soon) try cutting them back some. If that fails, we may have to rip them out. They are across the front of our house.

I like the juniper! It reminds me of a bonsai tree!

And your helpers look like they'd be wonderful hauling off the branches!

Thanks for a fun link for Fall Break!

I love trimming and pruning things, too!
