Autumn Colors at AlphabeThursday

When I think of Autumn colors, it reminds me of my childhood in New Jersey where I grew up and the fabulous display of leaves on the trees.  Where I live now, I don't see the vibrant colors anymore.  Except in artwork.

art journaling by DaisyYellow
DaisyYellow was one of the first art journalists I started to follow, about a year ago.  She has loads of information on her blog and offers creative prompts for journalers to follow. Tammy helped me get "out of my skin" artistically, and I thank her for that.

Artsyville (Aimee) is another art journaler I started to follow early on.  She is a crazy doodler and it's so much fun to look at her artwork.  Here's her blog and etsy shop.

I came to the decision to use bright colors in my art journaling.  Yellow just wasn't cutting it, but orange!  It became my new favorite color!  I wanted to show you all an example so I went back to photos of my Sketchbook Project 2010 to find some pages.  And I found something very interesting:

storybeader art journaling page
The left side of this page I painted with my (old) favorite color - blue.  I had gathered a bunch of orange beads and put them in an envelope.  Then wrote on the right side of the page: "There is a big change of address in my mind - all the beads that once moved me are in the past and a new horizon is getting clearer."

Not only was there a change of address, but a change of color!  Hadn't noticed that until today!  Oh, and there's orange leaves here too {:-D

This post was in response to our fall break from Ms. Jenny's AlphabeThursday class.  What fall colors are others thinking about?  Come and see here.

You've just proved to yourself how important journaling is, and art journaling in particular leaves a visual memory. Wonderful!

The last picture, the way it is reminds me of encaustics. Do you ever work with wax like that?

What a fun post! I never though of Creative Fire being an autumn piece, but it totally is... and it's my favorite season to boot. Thanks so much for including it here, my sweets!! I love your journal pages, too! xo

I didn't know that you're from New Jersey. That's too bad that you don't get vibrant fall colors down in Oklahoma. You should head up to the midwest sometime! Thanks for sharing a little history about your journaling process. It's interesting how these things change over time.

So very interesting! Love the quote!! Thanks for stopping by Aprons and Old Lace. I did have my wisdom teeth pulled and then went thrifting a few blocks down the road. I was the driver...I didn't get put to sleep so maybe that's why I was okay. It really wasn't that horrible or maybe I just lost all my "wisdom" with my "wisdom teeth" gone. :) Happy Fall! And thanks again for stopping by-I really loved your post! It was fresh and exciting to me!

Gorgeous art. I have done writing journals in the past, but never heard of art journaling...maybe because I've just in the last few years found the artist corner of myself...it is begging for more attention. I let it out to play every once in a while. Someday perhaps I'll try the journal idea. Lovely!
