Month in Photographs - August

August 2012

Today is Labor Day, a day of remembrance for those who died in active military service.  I have to say, I'm glad to leave the summer behind.  For me, a woman who works year round with no children (and no schooling) to worry about, September in Oklahoma is a great month.  Can't wait till the weather stays out of the triple digits!

About my photographs:  I joined The Art Center in August and took a papermaking class (1 and 4).  It was a lot of fun and convinced me I could do better.  I didn't miss any AlphabeThursdays; here's the Letter K (3), where I used my hand-carved stamp to make a modern design and the Letter N for Nowhere Man (5).  I was so surprised how many people didn't know what the Nowhere Man looked like!  The neighborhood pond (7) was a destination for me and Buster, usually on the weekend.

Since many people were asking what our house looks like, now with us trying to refinance, I thought I would take a picture (2).  I'm across the street; that was they only way I could get the whole building in!  DH just mowed the yard before I took this photo - whatever is left of our grass!  We've lost so many trees, it's unbelievable.  The front of the house used to be hidden by trees, when we first bought it.  Too sad, I liked it that way.  The only good-sized trees in the front anymore is a flowering pear and my favorite, our hibiscus tree (called Rose of Sharon, I just found out from Mom) with loads of white flowers (6)!

The paper making looks like so much fun! Fingers crossed everything continues to go well with the refi too :)

We've joined a paper making workshop as children. The result was not convincing us to try again. But I'm thinking about taking a class in Thailand one day. I'm sure, I can make better now.

It's neat to get to see your house! That's really too bad about the trees...it takes so long to grow them into anything large again.

Your DH has your house looking very nice! It's too bad you've lost so many trees though. I think it's so cool that you can make your own paper!

I enjoyed seeing your paper making. That's too bad about the frees. Most of the trees on our block are old and huge, but we had a baby in our front yard...less than 5 years old I would guess. I look forward to seeing it grow.
