AlphabeThursday - L is for Library

I suppose LIBRARY is going to be a popular Letter L for this group of AlphabeThursday bloggers.  I grew up going to the PUBLIC LIBRARY every week with my mom.  We would get books out to read at night.  When I went off to college, I majored in LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY, then earned my Masters degree some years later in LIBRARY SCIENCE.

I have my PRIVATE LIBRARY at home, spread out on shelves in my house.  There's gardening books and favorite historical fiction that I used to collect.  I've got books that I've purchased for my book club, cookbooks (even though I don't cook), travel guide books (including atlases and countries I've visited), and of course a nice selection of art books and magazines.

I still use the PUBLIC LIBRARY to check out various titles that people recommend.  I don't read as much as I used to, but still have a library card.  One of my friends who works at the circulation desk showed me the new library card I'll get when mine expires next year; they're much prettier than the one I have now.

There's a RESEARCH LIBRARY that's part of the Museum's Special Collections, where I work.  Just last weekend I checked out three books to help me in my upcoming Fantasy Faux Mail class; we needed small B&W images for transferring into our projects. The two books on the left are full of copyright free material (WooHoo) and the other book is about Native American animal tales, a favorite genre of mine.

As you can see, my life is surrounded by books and libraries.  I love my work and enjoy my free time writing and reading, art journaling and postal art.  I'm curious to see how many other people will chose Library for their Letter L!  Come find out with me at Ms. Jenny's blog, ...off on my tangent...

My Alphabe-Thursday isn't about libraries, but I sure use libraries! There are three close by -- I use my town's the most but go to the others from time to time. I'm never without a book -- mostly fiction that I read before sleep and when I'm eating lunch! I grew up using the library and continue on to this day!
Great post!

I love libraries! Since ours started offering downloadable books for our Kindles, we use it more than ever!

Stacia - that sounds really cool! If my library offered that, I'd be there a lot more, I use to frequent the library, now I just don't have time.

I'm chuckling to myself because that Kingsolver book is on my reading list to pick up next!

I used to visit the library all the time as a kid. I always wanted to be first in the Summer Reading Program :)
Nowadays...I'm more of a magazine girl than a book girl.

We have a love for libraries in common. Libraries have been important to me all my life. Wherever we were posted I'd always make the local library one of my first stops - searching out the sometimes small libraries in foreign countries. I have always felt at home in a library - anywhere.

I SO love your post on "L"! I adore adore books my friend too. A girl can't read enough and there is not enough time in the day for her love. I wish we lived in the same town. We could meet for coffee and talk the book world♥

My local library isn't as accessible to me as yours is, so I rely on my Kindle♫ I have thinned out my shelves so I have only a few treasured books now...found I don't like dusting them. Thanks for visiting my blog♥

I love libraries. Years ago, after lots of moving, I got rid of the lion's share of my personal collection and quit buying unless I felt I needed something for reference. Most everything I read comes from the library. Love that I can peruse the catalog from my computer and puts holds on everything I want at once!

Deb, I didn't know you specialized in library science--that is what I wished, once upon a time, to study. No $$ for a Masters, though, so I "settled" for collecting books, LOL, and cataloging them. Seriously, ha!

I didn't know this was your speciality! How wonderful!

I am infatuated with libraries...I can spend hours and hours there without moving a single muscle but my eyes and my turning finger!

Thanks for a lovely link.
