21 Secrets - Imagine You

My second workshop from 21 Secrets was with Hali Karla, called Imagine You.  It was divided into three parts: 1) laying paint on 3-6 sheets of paper, 2) gluing favorite sheets into my journal to collage with, and then 3) reflecting on the process.

We used a painting technique that Hali learned from Connie Hozvicka called Fearless Painting (trademarked).  I'm not in the habit of painting in my art journal, so this was new to me!

It's interesting to look back and reflect on my journal spread.  One of the sheets I chose to include contained some red paint that I painted with a fan brush.  Something I've never done before.  The paint reminded me of flowers, a passion of mine.  Another thing I love is anything with an oriental flavor.  I included images from the cover of a Japanese book I bought on a whim at the city book sale this past weekend.  I wasn't expecting to use the book in this way - I actually bought it for the neat looking pages!  That's one thing I love about art journaling: things begin to speak to you as you proceed.

You sneaked another post in while I had your blog open! Surprised me! I like the flowers you painted on with the fan brush. When I did ceramics, the fan brush was a favorite to use! This page came out really well!

this page is beautiful -- you must be having a blast in 21 secrets! I taught the last two years, so it feels a little lonely not being part of it this year... what a wonderful community it is!

I love the peek into your 21 Secrets work. Thanks for sharing! And I love the red flowers from the fan brush. I'm pretty sure I have a fan brush somewhere. If I can find it, I might try this out. :)

Fascinating! I have seen a lot of collages, and some journals - but I wasn't aware that the process was so complex. Looks like you are having lots of fun with your art.
