AlphabeThursday - O is for Oil Pastels

Here’s a quick sketch I did, honoring this week’s AlphabeThursday Letter O.
It’s drawn with oil pastels, a product I haven’t used much.

If you follow my blog, you’ll know that I use YouTube a lot, for pleasure and for learning.  One of my favorite subscription sites is thefrugalcrafter, who is also a blogger.  She dabbles in all sorts of crafts and is fun to watch.  If you’re interested in her video showing how to use oil pastels, go here  (warning: it is about 20 minutes.)

This all got me curious about what pastels could look like.
Here are some paintings I found on Etsy that I liked.  Enjoy!

Lovely, aren't they?

Come by Ms. Jenny's site, off on my tangent
and see what other bloggers have chosen for their Letter O!

Oil pastels are interesting. I haven't used any in a long time. I may have to look into buying some to try again. Is there a spray you can use on your artwork to seal the pastels?

OOOh! Love those pastels. Better than a new box of crayons. Love your aqua and coral sketch.

I love Pastels - my grandfather used them quite a bit and I have some of his pieces. I love the richness of the color that results.

Nice paintings. I love to work with pastels, but not the once in oil.

I love your flowers with the tin of oil pastels in front. There is something very alluring about a whole tin of paints, pastels, pencils etc It just makes you want to pick them up and give it a go!

A Great subject for P! In the past painters painted in pastel as a preparation for their oil, like Rembrandt, Degas, and some other very famous ones. I personally like the look of soft pastels and use a cross hatch technique to layer the colors on top of each other - so much fun!
