AlphabeThursday - B is for Butterflies

I haven’t seen many butterflies this Spring.
So I thought I’d take out my butterfly stamp and stencil, and add some into my art journal.

I bought this small butterfly stamp on sale a few years ago and got an idea of how to use it from one of my favorite artists (who I subscribed to), Vicky Papaioannou.  Recently in a video she made, she showed a trick I’ve never seen: stamping once in her journal and a second time on a piece of paper.  Then she cut out the paper and placed it on top of the stamped image.  This technique is really helpful to get details on the page.  Check it out in her video, called “Just go”

Two of my favorite supplies I use all the time are micron pens and watercolor paint.  Waterproof pens are great to use when collaging, since you don’t have to worry about the ink running.  And micron pens can have very small (.005) or large (.08) tips.

I’ve always been a writer, starting when I was young.  Used to use diaries; now I have my art journals.  I usually make some kind of background and then write about what’s happening in my life.  It’s neat to look back and see how your artwork changes over the years.    This is a very simple spread, where I’ve tried different techniques while adding butterflies into my life.

Come by Ms. Jenny’s site …off on my tangent…
and see what words were chosen by the AlphabeThursday gang.

That's a clever technique and makes them 3D like they're flying off the page :)
Micron pens are the best! I used them when I painted on wood, to outline and give detail. Hmmm, might have to do that again!

pretty!
I love butterflies! I haven't seen many yet either. I want to work on getting more butterfly/caterpillar support plants in my yard.
On a side note, I'm reading (again) Barbara Kingsolver's book Flight Behavior (butterfly theme). This time I'm listening to it. She reads it and has a wonderful voice.
It's my book club book for June.
